[ JERC ] El departament de Comerç, Turisme i Consum ha imposat una sanció de 30.000 euros a l'empresa Sociedad Estatal Correos y Telégrafos S.A. per incompliment de la llei de política lingüística del 1998.
L'expedient es va obrir arran de les denúncies presentades per una vintena de ciutadans que van considerar que l'absència del català en rètols i do*****ents a diverses oficines de Correus vulnerava els seus drets lingüístics. La multa arriba un cop constatat que, malgrat els requeriments fets a l'empresa, les oficines continuaven sense disposar de tots els elements de senyalització, cartells informatius i do*****ents redactats, almenys, en català, tal com estableix la normativa.
L'import de la multa a Correus és, amb diferència, el més elevat des que el govern va començar a sancionar empreses i establiments comercials per incompliment de la llei de política lingüística. De fet, segons ha pogut saber aquest diari, des que el gener de 2003 va finalitzar el període de moratòria de cinc anys previst a la llei, s'han imposat gairebé una desena de sancions per aquest concepte, però la majoria han estat lleus, amb imports màxims de 3.000 euros. Quan l'any 1998 el Parlament va aprovar la llei de política lingüística, es va preveure una moratòria de cinc anys per facilitar l'adaptació a la normativa de tots els sectors socials i econòmics afectats.
